Kafalah means responsibility, guarantee or suretyship. Legally, in Kafalah, a third party becomes surety for the payment of debt. It is a pledge given to a creditor that the debtor will pay the debt, fine etc. Suretyship in Islamic law is the creation of an additional liability with regard to the claim, not to the debt or the assumption only of a liability and not of the debt.
